environmental and agriculture systems; methods for soil enzymology; soil microbial communities in ecosystem services; global and environmental health
metal/non-metal inhibition of enzymes; chemical partitioning and bioreduction of soil metals; and harnessing fungi’s enzymatic potentials in bioenergy and bio-based fuels research. He has served as principal investigator
co-principal investigator and implementation leader for numerous projects. His research has been sponsored by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Department of Energy (DOE)
and the National Science Foundation (NSF). He has written
garnered and managed grants worth well over $12 million since tenure at Alabama A&M University. His tenure as Research Director had a significant increase in competitive grants awarded to the College. He currently serves as the co-principal investigator of a twice funded NSF – Center of Research
Excellence in Science and Technology (CREST) project (Total: $10 million).
