Yansun Yao is an Associate Professor at the University of Saskatchewan and Staff Scientist at the Canadian Light Source, Canada. He studied applied physics at the Beijing Institute of Technology, China, and received his PhD in physics in 2008 at the University of Saskatchewan, where he carried out studies on high-pressure physics. After receiving his PhD, he moved to the National Research Council of Canada, Ottawa as a postdoctoral research associate. He obtained a staff scientist appointment in 2009, at the NRC, and left the job In 2012. His main current interests are the predictions and characterization of structures and properties of novel materials (hydrogen storage materials, superconductors among others) using first-principles theoretical tools.
