Awesome

I loved taking History with Doctor Jackson. His videos for each topic were a great addition to a lot of reading. Just keep in mind that he's tough on his students and you're expected to pass your assignments on time, with no exceptions. On the other hand, he's a really nice guy and very responsive if you have any questions. I would love to take another class under him.

Awesome

This course is hard. However, Professor Jackson puts his time and energy into YouTube videos that take you into scenes in certain areas of history. I loved the little extra work he did, to add to the lectures each week. It helps to break up the readings that are a pain to get through. The final is tough though, so keep your notes. I suggest you do the reading and the work, then you'll pass.

Poor

I was disappointed with this course. For me, online courses were not meant to have multiple lectures a week. However, Professor Jackson's lecture videos were more than thirty minutes long and there were several to listen to. Unfortunately, it's impossible to remember everything that was necessary. Also, the final exam was a nightmare because he wants you to use the honor system and not the notes. So, good luck.

The first in-depth look at a highly significant LDS figure

Elijah Abel sheds critical light on the real history of blacks

    the priesthood

    the ban

and the multiplicity of doctrines that grew up to justify it. Elijah Abel's dedication and religious conviction in the face of enormous adversity are an inspiration to all who have wrestled with questions or issues that challenge their faith.

Elijah Abel: The Life and Times of a Black Priesthood Holder

This work presents the first-ever history of the 150-year religio-political rivalry between the Deobandis and the Barelvis--arguably the most important schism in the \"Muslim world

\" and certainly the most significant within Sunni Islam. More recently

that rivalry has often been expressed by means of bullets and bombs

especially in Pakistan. But beyond the headline-grabbing violence of the Deobandi-Barelvi schism lies the story of a century-and-a-half-long religious antagonism: at first over converts

later for competing visions of the political future

then for a place within a new \"Islamic\" polity--for dominance within its political structure. For Deobandis

the rivalry was defined by their struggle to propagate a \"pure\" Islam

as opposed to the Barelvi deviation (plus an unmitigated hatred of the British presence in India); for Barelvis

their right to speak for the \"Sunni majority\" was what defined the battle--a privilege that the Deobandis had long sought to usurp. Running constant throughout the rivalry's history

    too

were the two schools' separate visions of a glorious future Islamic epoch

    of a truly Islamic state--or

    perhaps more precisely

their differences on the subject of how to get there. Of course

the rivalry did not develop in a vacuum; its participants were shaped

    inspired

and manipulated by a host of outside influences

    the strongest of which

    perhaps

    was the modern

    \"total\" state.

A Subcontinent's Sunni Schism: The Deobandi-Barelvi Dynamic and the Creation of Modern South Asia

THE TIBET GAMBLE examines the risky bets being played on all sides of the Tibet issue--from Western businesses and the Chinese Communist regime in Beijing to non-violent Tibet activists and militant young Tibetan dissidents. Mr. Jackson answers many critical questions consistently avoided by most \"Tibet experts\" of today: What will happen when the Dalai Lama dies? Is there a militant side to the Tibetan freedom struggle? How much time do the Tibetan culture and language have left? Does the Western image of a peace-loving

violence-abhoring Tibetan truly mirror the reality for Tibetans today? And

    most importantly

how can the Tibet problem be solved?

The Tibet Gamble: Unraveling the Separate Struggles for the Land of Snows

Since the Dalai Lama's flight into India over forty years ago

hundreds of thousands of Tibetans have slipped past trigger-happy border guards and braved the highest mountain passes in the world to flee a country they say is controlled through fear. Thousands have perished in the attempt

but those who survive are scattered across the globe

from New Delhi to Zurich to Boston.Their stories of escape alone are noteworthy. But it is what many refugees have to say about their life within Tibet that is most important. These are their true stories

as told by themselves.Up to the present day

the Chinese government has denied or downplayed human rights abuses in Tibet. It has tried to justify criminal acts with statistics and vague comparisons to the past. But the testimony against the Chinese case is growing

and these accounts-as well as thousands more-cannot be ignored forever.
