University of Illinois Springfield Springfield - Biology
Adjunct Faculty
As an adjunct faculty, I have taught a wide variety of Biology lectures and lab sections as well as labs for the Capitol Honors Program over the last few years. Courses range from 100-level courses for non-science majors, to Human Physiology for CLS majors, to upper level biology laboratories.
Adjunct Instructor
I taught Biology courses mostly at the Regional Educational Center in Jacksonville and occasionally on main campus in Springfield. The main course I taught is Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II lectures and labs (Bio 175/176). I also taught Microbiology with lab (Bio 220) and General Biology with lab (Bio 101) on occasion.
Bachelor’s Degree
Animal Behavior, Ornithology, Evolution, Ecology
I participated in undergraduate research on Red-winged Blackbirds with Dr. Ken Yasukawa. We performed field research to study the effect of female calling and predator presence on nest vigilance.

Dissertation title: Dorsal cochlear nucleus output neurons in young and aged rats.
I studied how age impacts the electrophysiological responses of central auditory neurons to auditory stimuli. For this study, I recorded from a homogeneous population of DCN output neurons in young and aged rats. My results suggest an age-related loss of inhibitory input that results in processing auditory deficits, particularly to temporally-complex sounds.
