I’m an Excel geek who loves to tease revelations from tables and graphs. I have a B.S. in Professional Writing with a minor in business, an M.A in Teaching of Writing, and a graduate certificate in Higher Ed - Academic Advising -- all from Eastern Michigan University. I also have a wealth of real-world experience in accounting and administration. I am the Coordinator, Academic Success Programs, at Holman Success Center where I have the opportunity to interact with hundreds of first-year and at-risk students. I have mastered the Canvas LMS platform and am basically a ninja at all things Google-App related.
More about me:
I have an iced-mocha addiction and an Android phone my daughter named “Ruth.” I am deeply gratified by producing answers, direction, and results from analyzing and organizing raw data. I am a recent convert to the descriptive grammar approach to a singular "they" pronoun. I am fulfilled by those small moments of celebration when I can assist a student in their path to degree completion.
Specialties: Developmental English grammar and writing instruction, General Education and Proactive (Intrusive) Advising, Excel, Word, Wordpress, Blogger, InDesign, beginning HTML & CSS, social media platforms, SEO, copy writing, copy editing
Graduate Assistant, General Education Program
I use my knowledge and understanding of the Learning Beyond the Classroom requirements, which include the various community service opportunities, events, and organizations on campus, to assist students with fulfilling their general education requirements for graduation from EMU. I'm always on the lookout for new, interesting, and challenging ways for students to fulfill this requirement.
Public speaking, facilitating training, dialogues and presentations, providing quality academic support, and working with students from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds are just some of the things I do in my position as Graduate Assistant in General Education. I excel at communicating verbally and in writing within the organization, across the organization, and with students and the public. I also assist with program development, research and assessment, and collaborate with other EMU department and community constituents.
I assist the Program Director with developing and facilitating presentations as needed, along with data collection and research. I update and coordinate the dissemination of information from various committees and/or workshops using our website and related written publications.
I work with members of the EMU administration in advising and other departments during Fast Track, Eastern's registration and enrollment orientation program for incoming freshman, and I also teach UNIV 101L: Introduction to the University. In addition, I'm heavily involved with the PASS program for conditionally admitted students, serving as a Success Coach and instructor for these students.
I also make a mean cup of Earl Grey.
Instructor / Success Coach
I teach UNIV 101L3: Introduction to the University, and I'm involved in coordinating the program, as well. In addition, I'm a Success Coach for first-year students and those on academic probation, and I'm involved in a number of special projects teams for the General Education program.

Coordinator, Academic Support Programs

I supervise graduate assistants in the Holman Success Center involved in our Drop-In Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, Eagle Study Tables, and UNIV Peer Mentor programs, as well as 30+ undergraduate employees in those areas. In addition, I'm a Success Coach for first-year students and those on academic probation, and I'm involved in both the "High-Impact Practices" and "Leadership Distinction" teams for the General Education program. As of the Fall 2017 semester, I am also serving on EMU's Assessment Committee.
