The Process of Successfully Integrating Communication Technologies into Short-Term
Faculty-Led Study Abroad Programs: Reflections from the Field
As advances in communication technologies (CT) continue to shape modern life
it is critical study abroad professionals and faculty leaders contemplate the ways in which such technologies impact study abroad. This essay provides an argument for the value and utility of such contemplation through an in-depth examination of a short-term
faculty-led study abroad program and the three faculty who lead it. The authors provide reflective summaries of their own experiences with CT and study abroad and discuss the ways in which changes in CT resulted in changes to their own study abroad program including the integration of CT into academic components and logistics of the program. The essay concludes with practical advice for exploring the ways in which CT might effectively integrate into study abroad programs.

Faculty-Led Study Abroad Programs: Reflections from the Field
As scholars and practitioners seek ways to advance family science and family science programs
globalization is an important consideration. Indeed
internationalization of curricula is a current trend in higher education that merits serious consideration given increasing numbers of graduates will work in international and global contexts and/or with international and global families. Currently
few programs offer students perspectives on families that extend beyond U.S. cultural norms. This article addresses these concerns by providing faculty and administrators basic ideas for integrating international/global examples
assignments
and programs into family science curricula
emphasizing campus
community
and other resources available at minimal or reduced costs.
Advancing Family Science and Family Science Programs through the Internationalization of Family Science Curricula
Despite evidence of the positive effects of social support on weight management
researchers have not examined weight management support within the family. To address this gap
we explored factors associated with the perceived quality of four types of familial social support: instrumental
informational
companionship
and emotional. We found that study participants received instrumental support more than other types of support. Familial factors including mother's weight and family communication were significantly associated with the provision of perceived informational or emotional support. Personal factors including sex
race
income
and weight were significantly associated with perceived instrumental
informational
or companionship support. The results also suggest that the perceived quantity of support is an indicator of the support quality.
