My first faculty position was at a start-up American university campus in the Middle East, and it was there that I realized my real passion—helping organizations grow and improve their performance. Due to the rapid growth of the campus, I was quickly thrust into an administrative role.
Previously, I worked in business, consulting and founded a non-profit student leadership training organization. Finally, I decided to fulfill a long awaited dream and pursue my PhD. My intention was a complete career change that would consist of research and teaching, but management became my career path.
I have unique firsthand experience establishing and helping two international campuses grow. In my current role as Chief Administrative Officer at the University of Utah campus in South Korea, I am responsible for all financial, administrative, and academic operations. I am most proud of leading a team that over the past three years has:
• Increased enrollment by 109%
• Increased net tuition revenue by 180%
• Reduced tuition discounting from 32% to 9%
• Maintained a 90% student retention rate.
I have learned that organizational change and improvement is a difficult process, and one that must be nurtured daily. Through my years of experience in consulting and public opinion research, I have come to believe that progress in the workplace comes from:
• recognizing the need for improvement or change
• thoroughly researching the situation
• implementing change in a manner that unites everyone around a better future.
Although organizational improvement and change is both an art and a science, inevitably the best results occur when a leader can communicate and work with others to accomplish the desired goal.
My educational background is unique and helps me lead more effectively. My B.S. in Accounting allows me to understand the intricacies of financial operations, and my PhD in Political Science provides the groundwork for my understanding of decision-making and risk-taking.
