Ph.D.
My dissertation was titled \"The Effects of Race
Socioeconomic Status
and Religion on Formal End-of-Life Planning\" and was completed under the direction of Dr. Matthew Carlson. Logistic regression was run on data from a large nationally representative survey (the Health and Retirement Study) in order to analyze the completion of formal end-of-life plans by African American
Hispanic
and White decedents and to examine the role of socioeconomic factors and religion on the completion of formal end-of-life plans. \n\nAdditionally
during my doctoral education I was actively involved with the department and the Sociology Graduate Student Organization. I had the opportunity to participate in multiple research projects and be mentored by many outstanding faculty members.

Master's
My master's thesis was titled \"Do I Really Belong Here?: The Effects of Differences in Paths Through Higher Education on Graduate Student Perception on Legitimacy\" and was completed under the direction of Dr. Peter Collier. The thesis used grounded theory to conduct and analyze interviews that I conducted with master's students who had either followed a traditional educational path or were returning students who had a \"broken trajectory\" in their educational path. Although all students struggled with their student identity
the returning students tended to use faculty as a comparison group where the traditional trajectory students used other students as a comparison. It was posited that the differences in comparison groups may help explain differences in the feelings of legitimacy experienced by the students. \n\nAdditionally
I was very involved both with the department and the Sociology Club.
