My job responsibilities covered many areas of middle management within Student Affairs including but not limited to the following: Managing a programming budget, directly supervising 8 Resident Assistants, generally supervising up to 24 Resident Assistants on an
active duty night, participating in the recruitment and retention of RAs, participating in the training and development of 63 RAs, participating in the Resident Director on call system for 2800 students, securing and using campus wide master keys, actively confronting and
dealing with policy violations, serve as judicial officer for students in my direct area, serve as a counselor/referring aide in student issues, responsible for managing and maintaining judicial records, staff records, and hall government records, oversee department radio maintenance and usage, facilitate the opening and closing residence halls, facilitating and leading first year student placement/room assignment process.

Supervise one Associate Director, two Assistant Directors and more than 70 community-living team members, which include live-in students who serve as Community Advisors (CA) alongside master’s-level professionals serving as Area Coordinators (AC)

This doctoral thesis contributes to the literature on helicopter parents, and their relation to student development theory. A secondary examination of approximately 1800 randomized results from the 2007 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) was tested using the following statistical tests: Mann-Whitney Test, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, Friedman’s Chi Square Test, and Frequency Test. The 2007 NSSE was selected due to its experimental questions focusing on parent/guardian interactions. The findings confirm the significant effect that parent involvement/intervention has on student as they develop and mature into adulthood. In this study the results show that of all groups tested (Mother, Father, Guardian, Siblings and Friends), mother was the number one preferred method of communication, and had the highest quality of relationship. The results also point to implications for administrators within higher education, specifically in the areas of Student Affairs, and Parent and Family Programs.
