Anderson
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
More than thirty years' experience as a freelance writer and editor for education, government, non-profit and corporate clients combined with more than a decade of teaching experience in both university and workshop settings.
My parallel arts career has included roles in opera, Fringe theatre, and megamusicals - including the original Canadian cast of Phantom of the Opera. Combining writing and theatre has led to more than a dozen professionally produced stage works and a stint as writer-in-residence with the Canadian Opera Company. I have also worked as a theatre director, composer, producer, and classical concert artist.
My goal is to use and teach ethical communication practices in as wide a variety of fields and forms as possible.
Specialties: cross-discipline communication, narrative, economic reporting, teaching, proofreading, course development, book editing, poetry editing
Section Leader
I lead the bass section of the choir - singing with them, coaching them, and supporting their desire to sing.
Project Coordinator/Researcher
Coordinator for a Canadian Institutes of Health Research-funded study "The Experience and Resolution of Moral Distress in Paediatric Intensive Care Teams: A Canadian Perspective". Principal Investigator: Dr. Wendy Austin, Canada Research Chair in Relational Ethics in Health Care.
After the data collection and development of a typology, my role shifted. During the dissemination phase (part of which was covered by the original CIHR grant and part a new dissemination grant) I wrote and produced a stage play and then wrote a screenplay. Titled "Just Keep Breathing", the stage play has been produced for two exhibitions and the film premiered in 2014 and has been showing around the world.
Performer
As a classical baritone, I have worked in musical theatre and opera - including the Canadian premiere productions of Phantom of the Opera (Toronto and the Far East Tour), The Secret Garden (starring as Archibald Craven) and productions for regional and local theatres - everything from performance art to punk opera to Shakespeare to reality television (BookTelevision's inaugural 3-Day Novel Contest, which I won).
I have performed in venues as disparate as Carnegie Hall, Dollywood, Hong Kong Cultural Centre, and the National Arts Centre.
