Digitization Technician
The Bentley Historical Library houses 11,000 research collections and promotes the study of the histories of the State of Michigan and the University of Michigan. The library has state-of-the-art digitization and conservation labs.
Responsibilities:
Quality control for digitized print, audio, and visual materials.
In-house AV digitization of archival and production masters.
Performing post-processing functions on AV material including: audio normalization, digital video editing, audio editing, and item description.
Identifying and assessing the condition of archival AV material.
Designing Excel spreadsheets for calculating statistics and tracking project progress.
Writing reports for production work and projects.
Using advanced functions of Excel to create, modify, and update dynamic inventories of AV materials.
Tracking shipments and project status in a Filemaker Pro database and communicating with vendors.
Preparing shipments for digitization vendors by verifying or creating archival description and metadata, assigning unique identifiers, rehousing materials, creating entries in the project tracking database, and generating manifests.
Optimizing AV digitization workflows to improve accuracy, increase speed, and maximize efficiency.
Assisting in the development and revision of workflows, guidelines, and other documentation related to digitization.

Branch Supervisor
Library branch supervisor of the Pittsfield Branch (2007), Northeast Branch (2007-2008), Traverwood Branch (2008-2011), and Downtown Branch (2011).
Supervised branch and circulation operations in a fast-paced, high-volume, high-demand public library environment. In the 2010-2011 fiscal year systemwide circulation was 8,862,538 transactions, systemwide door count was 1,736,693 patrons, total systemwide revenues were $12,249,200, and total systemwide expenditures were $12,034,454.
Supervisory duties included: daily branch operations, circulation operations, project management, direct supervision and scheduling of 10-20 staff members, interviewing, hiring, staff training, budgeting, handling patron questions/comments/complaints, monitoring cash handling, disciplining staff, full-time and part-time staff evaluations for both union and non-union staff, customer service, public service training, and writing incident/helpdesk reports.
Branch supervisor responsible for closing the Northeast Branch and opening the Traverwood Branch in June 2008. This included logistics, the transfer of all materials, staffing, and creating new branch procedures.
Continuously worked with other supervisors to eliminate wasteful practices and improve the efficiency of circulation operations using the LEAN Process.
Supervised the circulation activities and organization of the Washtenaw County Library for the Blind and Physically Disabled Collection in 2011.
Supervisors work a weekend rotation and become the supervisor on duty for all five branches of the AADL for that weekend. Approximately 35-50 staff members work systemwide each weekend. On these weekends a supervisor fielded issues, call ins, and patron complaints systemwide and coordinated with IT and security as needed.
