Managing a dynamic group of boys

    their parents

and team coaches makes for a challenging environment. It's a bit like herding cats! Doing the job well requires a lot of communication

    facilitation

and social interaction. Seeing the boys succeed is what made it all worthwhile. Doing it in conjunction with the boys' head coach Lionel Lima made it even more worthwhile.

Teaching research methods to graduate students is a lot of fun and a great opportunity to get to know and help guide the future leaders of tomorrow. I use the framework for information literacy as a backdrop to build critical literacy skills in traditional and digital environments. I also teach some Arts & Science courses on behalf of the Faculty of Music.

    I'm an instruction librarian

    head of circulation

and adjunct professor at the Faculty of Music

University of Toronto. I received my Ph.D. in Musicology in 2006 and Masters in Library Science in 2010. My current research interests include information literacy

and music societies and sheet music publications in early Canada (ca. 1867-1920).\n\nOne of my favourite library activities is supporting students’ and faculty’s research needs through one-on-one consultations and through embedded library instruction in partnership with other courses offered at the Faculty of Music. I also enjoy leading instruction workshops

and do so throughout the year for undergrads

    grads and faculty.

This study investigates three e-resources supported by the Music Library at the University of Toronto aimed at course integration—Blackboard

    Naxos Music Online

and Turnitin.com—with a goal of measuring their usage rate

how effectively they meet instructor needs

and how well the library supports their use. It further highlights efforts made by library staff to facilitate integration of these resources into classroom settings. Through a qualitative and quantitative analysis

this study determines that resource usage has increased for two products and decreased for the third

reinforcing the library's understanding of where its finite resources are best deployed.

In 2008 the University of Toronto Libraries began its renewal and expansion plan for Robarts Library. As part of this revitalization

Media Commons is getting a radical makeover. To find out more about the changes happening at Media Commons

    I interviewed its director

    Brock Silversides

who not only manages an impressive circulating audio-visual library

but is also building an exceptionally rich archive of material from a variety of disciplines

    including broadcasting

    film

    animation

    advertising

    music

photography and acting. In addition to his responsibilities to the library

Mr. Silversides has curated twenty-five exhibitions

written twelve books and more than forty-five articles. He is also highly sought-after as an appraiser of audio-visual archival material across Canada

and teaches courses on managing audio-visual materials for the University of Toronto and Ryerson University.
