Prof. Thomas moves at a quick pace and he doesn't stop to review often. Even though textbook isn't required, the optional homework is there which you won't pass if you ignore. He's nice and he knows his stuff but he isn't great at explaining. Class is frustratingly definition and theorem heavy. Youtube and Google will be your friends.

Professor Schlumprecht can be hard to understand at times due to his accent. His pacing was pretty fast. Fortunately, he posted his lecture notes online, so if you miss you can catch up. However, you get a lot more by going to class than reading the notes. On the other hand, attendance in not mandatory. Weekly quizzes, two tests, and a final, and homework was not graded. Recitation helps more than actual classes.
