Awesome
Professor Thomas never fails to make an interesting class! He always tries to motivate everyone to participate! He always offers us career advice, and one of his favorite lines was, "If you want to make money, go into sales engineering." You will have a lot of homework, and if you have any problems, he is always available to help via email, before or after class.
Awesome
Professor Cheriyan is amazing! He is undoubtedly one of my favorite professors at CCNY. He was so laid-back and he taught me a lot of useful information and gave me great advice. With his lectures and short videos, he was always able to keep the class interested. His assignments were a little lengthy, but I learned a lot from them. Would highly recommend taking him!
Good
The professor is very specific about the objective of the class and what he expects you to learn from it. If you are eager to learn, he is always willing to assist you. Your critical thinking skills, as well as those you acquire during the course, are used to create the assignments. He turns dry case studies into lively group discussions. 10/10 would recommend!
Awesome
He's a pretty decent prof! The class discussion is fascinating, and he is interested in everyone's viewpoint. In this class, there are no correct or wrong answers because he really encourages students to think openly and participate in the debate. Even though it can be daunting at times, the hw encourages us to think critically.
Good
You will make the class as nice as you want it to be. More than any other aspect of engineering, it is focused on critical thinking. You can write a response in a day if you give the case studies your full attention. While there is no simple grading rubric, the professor provides helpful guidance and facilitates a productive conversation about each assignment afterward.
Awesome
Prof. Cheriyan is a cool and good speaker prof! He exudes self-assurance, which I admire. It was a fascinating class! If you're shy and find it difficult to express yourself, this class will allow you to do so without fear of being wrong. The focus of the class is on reading case studies, writing responses, and defending your position.
Awesome
Professor Cheriyan takes a different approach to teaching this class than other professors. We spent the whole semester working on real-world challenges and solutions. There was a lot of class discussion, and he was very open-minded to everyone's opinion. This class taught me a lot. 10/10 would recommend!
Awesome
Professor Cheriyan provides a huge amount of homework. Those were very time consuming. However, it will help to improve your critical thinking skills. He's always open to student discussion. Also, he takes feedback from time to time. The content of the course is interesting as well.
Awesome
Cheriyan has a unique teaching approach to Engineering and Business Law. Instead of boring lectures, he fosters lively debates on a variety of themes (usually based off of articles and case studies). There will be no tests or projects, but anticipate to produce 2-3 page homework responses. Class is easy as long as you do the homework and participate!
Awesome
I wish there were more professors like Thomas in college; this is the first class I've taken that has made me feel like I've learned anything useful for my future career. Don't be hesitant to enroll in his class; I guarantee it will be nothing like other engineer classes, which are all highly abstract and theoretical.
Good
Prof. Thomas turned a simple A class into one in which students must think critically and persuasively to defend their positions in writing. I don't think an A from CCNY signifies much, therefore I'll gladly accept the trade-off. In contrast to basic engineering disciplines, students are encouraged to discuss in class as if they were in a real-world workplace. 10/10 would recommend.
Awesome
Professor Cheriyan is a fantastic teacher, both in and out of the classroom. The case studies are fascinating and really help develop critical thinking and discussion among our classmates. Students were encouraged to learn by reducing the dread of exams and pushing them to believe that as long as they can strongly back their ideas, they will never be wrong.
Good
As compared to other ENGR courses at CCNY, this class is distinctive in a way that it encourages you to think critically about a solution to Harvard Case Studies. There aren't a lot of equations to remember, and there aren't a lot of processes to follow to solve a problem. While some of the homework assignments are tiresome, others are rewarding. The lectures are interesting and entertaining.
Good
He gives tough assignments that make the course really challenging. However, the course's difficulty was eventually beneficial to the students' growth and development.
Good
Overall, I had a great time in his class! The lectures were interesting, and it was good to have in-class conversations, which is unusual in engineering programs. He is engaging and genuinely wants his students to enhance their critical thinking and analyzing skills. He's very open-minded as well! The only drawback is that case study HWs take a long time to complete, and the guidelines aren't always clear.
Good
There is a lot of reading required, but since he is the only professor available, you really don't have a choice. His talks are fascinating and informative. He promotes involvement and emphasizes the need of being prepared for future opportunities, including feedback on life beyond college. Fortunately, I got an A.
Good
Professor Cheriyan teaches engineering economics in a practical approach. He stresses the use of Harvard case studies to learn how to handle prospective future economic decisions that we may face in our careers. This course requires a lot of effort, but you will get back exactly what you put in.
Awful
This professor is something else!!! He simply shows up to class, speaks some weird nonsense, and then sets weekly assignments that take 2-3 days to complete. He isn't the one grading your papers, either. They are graded by the TA, and you must wait for your grade. This class teaches you nothing except how to read tedious case studies.
Poor
At the very least, Thomas is a one-of-a-kind professor. He's made it clear that this isn't his top focus, and he delegated most of the grading to his TA. He isn't so responsive to emails. It's not a difficult subject, but there's a lot of work involved, including weekly case studies that take about 4-6 hours to complete. He doesn't teach traditional ENGR ECO, all Harvard Case studies responses.
Awesome
At CCNY, Professor Cheriyan is one of a kind. He was, without a doubt, the best professor I had in my Master's classes. There are no tests, thus class participation and written reports are the most important things. He provides Harvard case studies and videos for students to use in their reports. In economics and engineering, he exposes you the ugly truth and inspires you to think differently.

An electronic chessboard for the blind using refreshable braille display on each square of the chessboard instead of using chess pieces. The advantage is that feeling braille which can represent each chess piece is much more advantageous than feeling each chess piece on the chessboard. It also helps a blind player to distinguish black and white pieces more efficiently.
