Good
There are quizzes that help you prepare for the exams.Dr. Leyk her students and wants you to succeed. The programming assignments are a lot of work so get started on them early. Do all of the assignments and go to office hours.
Good
Really knows the material and office hours always help. A little bit difficult to understand because of her accent, but the Programming Assignments and the homework will get you an A or a B. I don't have any experience in programming, and she managed to help even me in office hours.
Awful
If you're interested in going ahead and actually making the time you spend worthwhile the I highly suggest that you NOT take this class. There are in-class quizzes which are entire day assignments, effectively ruining my Friday as I try to have a single day without homework in my week.
Awful
Professor Leyk has unrealistic expectations from her students. You need immense programming knowledge and no, CSCE110 doesn't cut it. You'll be so busy with this class that you won't have any time for other classes or anything else. Every week the class gets harder. Do yourself a favor and don't take her class or else you will regret it everyday.
Poor
Professor Leyk was probably smart. However, her lectures were too hard to focus on to have any use. She gave out at least two quizzes a weeks, which ended up either homework or a quiz on her lecture. Those were impossible to understand and it did not go well. On the brighter side, TA's and laboratory periods were very helpful. Overall, the class was really annoying.
Average
Prof. Leyk is undoubtedly intelligent, but as she mumbles during lectures, it is fairly difficult to understand her. If you have a lot of good solid programming experience, take her and be prepared to move quickly.
Awesome
Prof. Teresa is amazing!!! She's very helpful in office hours and she really wants everyone to succeed. She'll help you as long as she sees that you try. Class wasn't the easiest but she made it pretty understandable!
Average
Leyk wasn't very good. Her lectures can be problematic since she brings people up to the board to present, which is ineffective in a lecture of 100 people. The programming assignments can be time-consuming, however the TAs and PTs can be quite helpful, and I highly recommend you use them. I earned 70s on both tests and still got an A, so she has a good curve.
Awesome
For starters, 98 percent of ENGR professors at A&M have an accent, and by the third lecture, you'll get used to hers. Despite the fact that I disliked her 222 class, I chose her for 221 because she actually cares about her students in a tough love kind of way. Ignore the negativity and take her. In her 222 class, I got my first ever B, although it was entirely my fault.
Average
I had Professor Leyk on 121 and 221. Unfortunately, her lectures were hard to follow. Almost all learning takes place outside the classroom. I suggest you use all available teacher assistants. Also, if you're struggling and you know it, don't wait until the last minute to try the review early. Even if the class isn't taught that well, it's not too difficult to get an A or B just by studying.
Good
Doctor Leyk's class is quite what you'd expect. His lectures can be a bit monotonous, but try to pay attention, as the information will show up on the exams. In addition, if you don't pay attention and wait until the last minute to finish your programming, you'll struggle.
Poor
She has a strong accent. Her lectures and slides can be a bit hard to understand. Also, she tends to interrupt when you're asking a question. The assignments are all alright though.
