Awesome
Prof. Skotnicki seems to really hate powerpoints. Class was very lecture heavy with little to no visuals at all. You will have to take notes as well. He's carefree and he gives great and clear feedback. He's very enthusiastic about sociology as well. He gives heavy readings, but if you skim on it, you'll do fine. At times, he can be dry, but he's very humble and funny.

My dissertation research focuses on the origin and significance of ethical purchasing at the turn of the twentieth century in the United States and England. This project draws on the archival documents of three pioneering groups of ethical consumers: the National Consumers’ League
the Co-operative Wholesale Society
and the Women’s Co-operative Guild. I show that a plausible account of this activism must begin with the proliferation of mass produced commodities
but the character of their activism varied with their orientations to people
on the one hand
and goods
on the other.
