Nineteen years of diverse and progressively responsible experience with an emphasis in systems strategic, and organizational development focused on students, organizations, and the higher education environment. I have concentrated in fraternity/sorority advisement, housing, intervention strategies, and alumni/advisory team development, as well as kept myself current and informed as a student affairs generalist.
Philosophically, it is my role to challenge and support students development towards self-authorship with intentional and in-depth learning experiences. The student experience is sophisticated, and each matter and is unique. We all have multiple identities and cultural considerations to be celebrated and validated. I work every day to develop my competencies, so I can help students develop the skills they need, including interpersonal development, critical thinking, practical competence, so that when they have the opportunity to make decisions they make ones that are in the best interest of others, not just themselves. These conversations work best one on one.
Our Strong student leaders need deep learning through education, experience, and reflection opportunities. We must consider how we challenge and support the individual, group, and community levels. If we aim to have a safe, healthy, and secure learning environment, then we must approach prevention as a process, not a program or policy or a person. We have no magic bullets, but rather the capacity to be as intentional in our work.
It is impossible to arrive at a proper answer without first asking a good question. It is my role to ask right questions to empower and challenge students and all our stakeholders. As a professional, going the extra mile and engaging in a shared got is role modeling for students, alum, and our fellow professional colleagues.
