Business Narrative
I began building NJ Salsa (llc), a dance & promotions company in North Jersey, in September of 2016, after graduating from Princeton Seminary, by applying the principles and strategies of grassroots community organizing. I began with a core group of six participants, for a Wednesday night Salsa lesson at a nightclub in Elizabeth, NJ. Today, that dance lesson is the largest weekly Salsa class in the state (GoElizabeth.com), drawing an average of eighty-five people every week.
Through the design and implementation of an Instructor Training Program, and a Social Media Campaign Program, NJ Salsa has become the fastest growing dance network in New Jersey, with ten locations in seven cities running every week. The business model is unique in the industry in that the company does not own or rent any dance studio space and it does not charge people for the lessons, rather, it uses the existing space of food and beverage establishments to draw in new and sustainable business through dance lessons and promotions. The strategic plan focuses on identifying and training leaders, on building communities, and on creating experiences of social intimacy, mostly through dance. While NJ Salsa has partnered with the City of Elizabeth, and private companies for programs and events, our main business is the nightclub industry. I'm open to expanding NJ Salsa through strategic partnerships and investment. Please see my pictures included here for a visual of what I do.
