Building and Implementing a 4D Cadastral Information System

The research contained within the confines of this paper focuses on the development of a cadastral information system where the user will be able to navigate through a cadastre at various levels of detail and view the parcels in a four-dimensional (4D) context. The traditional two-dimensional cadastre is valuable

but does not have the versatility to accommodate three-dimensional (3D) analysis as well as integrate the parcels history (from a land rights and geomorphic perspective). This paper evaluates the value

    documents the processes

and analyzes the practical future of a 4D cadastral information system. This was accomplished by researching the necessary literature

    selecting a viable parcel dataset

    harvesting the necessary cadastral data

    compiling the required geospatial datasets

    developing the cadastre

and exploring implementation schemes. Using a combination of software applications

the resultant 4D cadastral information system yielded a 3D parcel model with simulated historical versions and comprehensive attribute information. Going forward

the promulgation of this type of a cadastre on a city (or larger) scale will require significant investment during all stages of implementation

but the largest impact will be the versatility of the 4D cadastral information system.
