Chair & Professor, Department of Natural Science & Mathematics, Richard Bland College
Higher Education
Shawn E.
Holt, Ph.D.
Richmond, Virginia Area
As my career progresses, I find myself very interested in administration, and with positions as a director of programs and now Chair of a Department, my administrative skills have been enhanced. That said, my passion is education - teaching and training people how to think about science is what I love to do, whether it's in the classroom, as an administrator, at the bench, in the community, or as part of a scientific company. With my position as Department Chair, the administrative decisions we make will serve the best interests of our students, first and foremost. As an industry consultant for nearly 17 years and with my own start-up company, my experience with the business side of science is significant, with expertise in a variety of areas, from clinical research to molecular biochemistry to materials science/engineering to grant and patent submission.

Specialties: Protocol design and implementation, scientific discovery, teaching and training, faculty mentorship, managing multiple projects, research development, personnel management, grant proposal and manuscript writing and review, creative and scientific writing, academic program development
