I have 18 years of experience in higher education. I teach and mentor students across three academic programs (BS, MPH, PhD), conduct research, serve in various capacities on institutional committees, and provide assistance to national and local organizations dedicated to health and advocacy for underserved populations. I have experience with internationalizing the curriculum, online course development and delivery, service-learning pedagogy, qualitative/ethnographic methods, community-based participatory research, grant writing and community-engaged scholarship, and interventions/practice with refugee and immigrant populations. I have conducted fieldwork in the rural Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico, South Africa, Zambia and Malaysia and presented my work at regional, national and international conferences.

My responsibilities include:
1. Teaching public health and health education courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs in the Department of Public Health Education. Courses taught include Global Health, Public Health Diseases, Immigrant and Refugee Health, Ethnicity and Health and Health Issues of Lower Income Groups. I have taught interdisciplinary and honors courses (Global Health in Action and Literacy for Health), and conducted international service-learning/study abroad programs to Zambia and Malaysia.
2. Mentoring undergraduate and graduate student researchers and interns, and advising to doctoral students. I serve on several doctoral committees.
3. Research related to transnational/global health-- 1) cultural adaptation, integration challenges, well-being and health of immigrants and refugees and 2) factors impacting HIV prevention and care outcomes in US immigrant populations and in under-resourced settings of Sub-Saharan Africa. I am a Research Fellow with the Center for New North Carolinians who focus is on best practice for the well-being of international newcomers to the Piedmont Triad region.
3. Service in the form of membership on the Undergraduate Program Committee for the Department of Public Health Education, Chairing the Internationalizing the Curriculum Committee for the School of Health and Human Sciences and former membership on the Program Advisory Committee for International and Global Studies (IGS). I am currently a Board member for the Association for Refugee Service Professionals.
