Successfully managed programs in developing technology platforms for commercializing new technology and products for increased sales and profits. Key competencies are:
• Four European and twenty US patents granted. Several others filed at USPTO.
• Twenty publications in referred journals and proceedings.
• Presented more than twenty-five papers in national and international technical meetings.
• Project management from concept to commercialization. Commercialized several products with $MM in product sales.
• Supervision of technical personnel, process development, scale up, and manufacturing.
• Team work with research, manufacturing, marketing, and sales.
• Safety, Quality, and Regulatory Issues –Laboratory Safety, TSCA, PMN, ISO, FMEA.
• Customer technical service, customer and supplier/vendor intimacy and toll manufacturing of products.
• Technical presentation and organizing Technical meetings.
• Understanding of polymer structure property relationship, polymer blends, and polymer processing.
• Polymer synthesis (Biodegradable, hydrophilic, water-soluble and breathable polymers. Polyolefins, Polyesters, Polyamides, Polyurethane, Block co-polymers, and Acrylate polymers). Polymer characterization and use of DOX.
• Understanding of rheology and surfaces for adhesive development for various applications.
Assistant Professor
Developed new courses in polymer chemistry, polymer synthesis, and organic chemistry at Tuskegee University. Taught organic chemistry, polymer chemistry and associated laboratories.
Research Fellow
Developed new adhesive technology for the introduction of new global products with enhanced performances. Developed and commercialized ADVANTRA ENCORE™ global platform for new hot melt packaging adhesives for H.B. Fuller Company. Developed and commercialized patented HYDRALERT™ wetness indicator technology for nonwoven and personal hygiene applications. Provided technical support to HBF Venture for acquiring new business for increased revenue/profit. Managed Technology Transfer Forum at H.B. Fuller for cross-functional interactions since 1992.
Research Chemist/Supervisor
Managed projects and developed technology platforms for commercializing HBF’s patented HYDROLOCK™ (Absorbent Adhesive products) and CYGNET™ (Laminating Coating Technology) technologies. Developed patented technology for breathable and non-breathable adhesive, film, and coating for medical and textile applications. Designed and implemented test methods for product development. Identified customer base, developed market, scaled up production capability, and commercialized technology and products (with sales of more than $5MM/yr) for disposable medical and personal hygiene products. Worked as a team with manufacturing, sales, and marketing. Developed rheological profile of block copolymers and hot melts for non-contact coating process.
Summer Research Scientist
Performed research on the synthesis and characterization of high performance polymers.
Adjunct Faculty Instructor
Teaching general chemistry and organic chemistry with associated laboratories. Introducing new course in Industrial Polymers with associated laboratory.
Senior Research Chemist
Developed new Polyester and polyamide with oxygen barrier property for beverage bottles. Synthesized polyester and polyamides with strain hardening properties. Used polymer extrusion and stretch blow molding process for making PET/PEN films and bottles for packaging applications.
Assistant Professor
Developed and directed the Graduate Coatings Technology program (MS). Implemented several courses in Polymer and Coatings Technology and set up laboratories. Developed interactions with Coatings Industry for course and curriculum development and presentation. Supervised undergraduate and graduate student research work.
