Samar
Ben Romdhane
Ottawa, Canada Area
I am an experienced research, policy analysis and communication professional, fully bilingual and passionate about policy issues surrounding social justice, diversity, human’s rights and Multiculturalism.
Drawing on a broad understanding of “politics” and on a non-media centric approach, I have conducted in-depth research studies on a variety of public policy topics including reasonable accommodations, cultural diversity, transitional justice, Gender Equality, victim's of human right violation and victim's of sexual misconduct. I have also conducted research on the post Arab spring social and political transformation in MENA region. I recently moved into an applied-research role at The department of National Defense.
Over the past five years, I have consistently demonstrated an ability to think critically, while being pro-active and collaborative in a team setting. I have the independent thinking required of a successful scientist. I attended the University Laval from 2006 to 2016, receiving a Master Degree and a Ph.D in Public communication. Interested in the spaces for discussion in which public debate takes place, I published book chapters, scientific articles, research reports and a thesis entitled, "La parole en action: dissensus sur les accommodements raisonnables lors des auditions en commission parlementaire au Québec (2010-2011”

    Communication and Media Studies
Public communication is defined as the set of phenomena of production, processing and dissemination of information related to debates, public policy and public issues. This include discourses, positions and strategies used by media, institutions, companies, movements and groups that intervene in the public arena.

  • Université Laval

    Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

    Public Communication
By completing this Ph.D., I am able to analyze the modes and the communication processes used during discussions on social and political issues and during public debates. According to the public communication approach, the public space can be understood as a theater stage where politics plays to an audience of spectators whose collective judgement produces public opinion.
