This skate competition
supported by Zumiez and local volunteers
was the 2nd annual event open to the public in which members of the community were invited to the nearby skate park for fun
food
music
and prizes. Planning for this event included assigning roles to volunteers
coordinating with safety officials
contacting live bands and local retailers
and supporting a fun environment for all participants.
Zumiez
Student researcher
During the fall semester of 2014
I had the opportunity to work with BBBS of the Tri-State area to reach out to the community to broaden the number of volunteers to mentor the children in the area. Through extensive research and special training
I built upon my skills in grant writing
interpersonal communication
and community outreach. In the end
we were able to meet our projected goal of newly pledge volunteers at the start of the new year.
