Awesome

Professor Lamarca is a fantastic teacher for CSCI 1301. His lectures were very informative. It actually helps you to grasp the concepts, so you understand what you're doing in your laboratories and projects. Also, he's always willing to help you out and will answer your questions. Definitely, I would take another class with him again.

Prof. Lamarca is a good teacher and a fine choice for 1730. His lectures, while boring, are clear and it's really nice that his slides are accessible on eLC. The labs and projects were not too hard. The tests are very simple too. He was always super nice and helpful during office hours, but he would sometimes get mad at people talking. An easy A overall.

Awful

Professor Lamarca repeats the same thing over and over again, until you get tired of his voice and drift to sleep during the lecture. His voice has a rhythm that goes up and down like a roller coaster and fades away at the end of his speech. You have to pay attention to what he says, because he talks monotonously and mumbles a lot as if he's muting himself.

Prof. Salvatore's lectures are helpful but boring because of his monotonous voice. He gives pop quizzes! I suggest you read the syllabus beforehand. Quizzes were worth more than the coding assignments. I suggest you learn java before on edX coursera.

To all the students who were wary of taking CSCI 1301, with no or little experience, yes, this will be a very challenging course for you. However, I don't regret taking Professor Lamarca's class since, I learned a lot. Even if he's pretty boring, he's decent. I happened to get a good grade because I had nice teacher assistants and the final exams were open notes. Just work hard and ask his help. You'll be fine.

Professor Lamarca has a monotone voice, but he carries himself well. This class is not an easy one. It's very hard. He's very clear and specific, which he doesn't get enough credit for. The pop quizzes and exams were what drag your grades down. So, you need to study hard. Just do well on projects and laboratories. Getting help from the teacher assistants is my suggestion. Overall, this class is tough to keep up.

The material for Professor Lamarca's class is tough. Especially, if you don't have any experience with Java or coding before, I suggest get some first. It is taught in an overwhelming way, that you may feel behind. You may feel alone because, the students cannot help each other out. It also seems that the teacher assistants can't help you much. You must go to the DAE for help.

The weekly pop exams were torturous for me :( However, he was kind throughout the pandemic, and many students' scores improved. Only two examinations, the midterm and final, account for more than half of your grade. You also don't get to see what you got incorrect on them. I only made it because of outside tutoring. If it weren't for the pop quizzes, I'd take him again.

Professor Lamarca doesn't care about his students. He doesn't care if the class understands the material or does well with homework. He simply does the easiest thing for him, which literally reading off the slides. Also, he waited to post the multiple-choice for final grades ten minutes before final class grades were due because he didn't want to deal with his students.

Professor Lamarca, is a very smart guy. He tries to be funny and a good lecturer. However, he lacks any kind of empathy for his students. Also, he will call you out for random small things in class. On the other hand, you'll learn a lot in his class. Overall, he's a fine professor it's just that, I'm not the biggest fan of his personality.

I had Professor LaMarca for Computer Science 1301 last semester as well. He's a good teacher and very invested in teaching. He's there to help you learn, but he can't learn for you though. The class could be hard if you don't keep up with it. Same as other Computer Science courses, his classes are fast pace and require a lot of work.

I had Professor Lamarca for 1301 last semester. His lectures are still very bland and straightforward. He reads his slides line by line and doesn't explain confusing terminologies. A lot of people say the same thing, and believe me, it's true. It's like there are almost pop quizzes and the exams were hard. Surprisingly, I've never felt overworked in his class though.

Professor Lamarca's class was very challenging as I never programmed before this class. He reviews textbook concepts thoroughly. He'll do it line by line. Lectures get boring sometimes though. His lab is graded by teacher assistants. So, start early and ask for help since they are very nice. I suggest you attend his class and put the effort into your work.

Professor Lamarca is very fair. He never asks for more than he teaches in class. Either at the beginning of the semester, when the class was still face-to-face, or after the transition to the online class because of the pandemic, I felt that the notes I had taken at the lectures were more than enough to prepare me for homework and exams. What a fantastic teacher he is.

Professor Lamarca conducts classes in large lecture halls, expressing a challenge due to the overwhelming number of students. He explicitly discourages students from seeking assistance during office hours due to the high demand. Additionally, the teaching assistants are often unavailable. Both he and the TAs show a lack of interest in providing help, frequently redirecting questions to other TAs. Also, he falls short of providing the necessary tools for students to succeed, leaving many to rely on self-teaching. Furthermore, the grading responsibility is delegated to undergraduate TAs.

This professor is quite dull. His lectures were boring. You still learn a lot, but it feels like a chore. The labs and projects are easy. However, the exams, which there aren't a lot of, count for a big part of your grade. They're way harder than the projects and labs that take a lot more of your time. And because they're tough, they can potentially mess up your grade massively.
