Good
Overall, a great professor. People always complain about Chemistry, but it's really not that hard if you just do even the smallest amount of studying. The lectures are very boring though. Personally, I couldn't pay attention to them. There's lots of homework on sapling, which is a really nice way to learn the material. Recitation is useless though. Good professor overall.
Good
Prof. Yates was amazing! Class was quite boring because he simply reads off the powerpoint, but I feel like he made the information more understandable. He's pretty much accessible out of class as well! Would honestly take a class with him again.
Poor
Doctor Yates is easily one of the most boring teachers I've ever had. He's not actively bad. However, he does nothing to add to the course or engage the students. Given the Chemistry 105 course curriculum is pretty solid and set by the department, he does a good job of following the PowerPoint.
Poor
Doctor Yates is a great person. If you are not good at Chemistry, his class is not for you. However, he hardly explains anything and will just go on with more than seventy slides of PowerPoint slides per lecture. Because of this, it's really impossible to take notes. I suggest you read the textbook and do practice questions for the exam. Also, invest in Chegg for Sapling homework, it will save your life. Overall, if you are not good at Chemistry, his class is not for you.
Poor
His lectures are long. The start-up details are pretty basic but he takes forever to go through them. There are times when I don't understand what he's saying. Rumor has it, he's not around much to help outside of class.
