Dr. Schmidt received his PhD from the University of South Carolina (USC), Arnold School of Public Health, Health Services Policy and Management (HSPM) and is the current Department Head of Healthcare Management and Leadership at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC).
Major Schmidt has more than 23 years associated with the Department of Defense (DOD) military and Veteran Affairs (VA) healthcare systems in which he was assigned to various roles in healthcare logistics, supply chain management (SCM), group practice management and healthcare contracting. He continues to serve as a Senior Healthcare Administrator within the 489th Aeromedical Flight (AMDF) at Dyess Air Force Base (AFB) in Texas (TX).
Dr. Schmidt is a certified Materials and Resource Professional (CMRP) as recognized by the American Hospital Association (AHA) and the Association for Healthcare Resource and Materials Management (AHRMM). He was handpicked to serve on AHRMM’s Academic Council for Healthcare Supply Chain Research.
Most recently, Dr. Schmidt completed his AACSB MS in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Georgia College and State University following Post Doctorate training with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the areas of Operations, Logistics and Supply Chain Management (SCM). In 2015, he completed AACSB Post Doctorate training at the University of Florida Warrington College of Business Administration in the areas of Marketing/Management and International Business and Entrepreneurship.
Dr. Schmidt’s research interests are multifaceted to include the following: health policy, health integration, healthcare analytics, healthcare logistics and SCM, healthcare cost containment/access, demography, chronic care conditions and gerontology.
