Prof. Windeknecht undeniably put an effort to introduce his "game-ified" class. He made a philosophy class a lot more interesting. However, class participation is very important. He also asks difficult questions after presentations.
Awesome
The class of Professor Windeknecht is the definition of an organized chaos. He is trying to be a lot of things at once. He really makes the class stress-free as possible. He has a great personality and makes the class easy to learn. The only main complaint is that, It's hard to figure out the grade.
Awesome
Prof. Windeknecht's class structure was like nothing I have experienced, but it really helped me understand the material and apply it more. Prof. Ryan is totally awesome!!
Awesome
Weird premise for a course in professional ethics such as dungeons and dragons but, he made it work. This is much better than a straight up lecture class so far. I highly recommend the class of Mr. Windeknecht.
Awesome
Always come prepared and read the material.
Awesome
This was a really great class. Do not be scared that it is a card game, it's just a better and more fun way of learning philosophy. It is better than most other electives at University of Tennessee for sure.
Awesome
Professor Ryan is an outstanding teacher. He honestly wants his students to succeed and enjoy the course, and he tries as much as he can to make sure you get an A. Take this course!
Good
Prof. Ryan is a beast. This is a very interesting class. You can ask your teammates if you get confused about something. Most likely, they will help you along with Prof. Ryan who does a great job of explaining things. Ryan simply lays out the "game' and it honestly felt he's explaining way too much which is in favor of the students.
Good
Prof. Ryan is a nice guy who is knowledgeable about philosophical concepts. He also likes to keep the class interesting and informative.
Awesome
Professor Ryan is one of the most interesting teachers I have ever had. His material was engaging and the class structure was very unique. You really should take his class if you have the chance.
Awesome
This class was very fun and game like. The essays are graded tough but as long as you follow the criteria you will do great. If you just show up to class you will get an easy A or B.
Awesome
Prof. Windeknecht is an amazing professor and you can tell that he is very passionate about the course. While in a fun environment, he still helped me learn the material. His personality made the class so much better and the game-like style of this class helped me grasp the material. I would want to take his classes again.
Good
He has the class set up like a game. At first I was skeptical but it was actually really helpful and a lot of fun. I ended up learning while having fun and forgetting it's actually about philosophy.
Awesome
Professor Ryan was easily my best professor! He was great the whole semester. He teaches his class in an interesting way by doing a Dungeons and Dragons type game all semester. Show up to class and it's an easy A. Take this professor by any means necessary!
Good
Professor Ryan is fantastic! He genuinely cares about how much the students are learning and he doesn't mind altering the course if it means you'll learn more. The class is extremely fun and I didn't mind going to it even after a full day of classes. Class is set up like a game and even though I hate group work, it was fun the way it was done. He does grade the 4 papers tough though.
Awesome
Prof. Windeknecht is very respectful. Class isn't lecture heavy and he has interesting material.
Good
Prof. Windeknecht gamified the class which made it very interesting. We made cards to "battle" with. Honestly, I find his class a lot more fun than the normal ones. However, he's a tough grader when it comes to essays. I actually took this to get an easy A but as of now, I have no idea if I'll get one. You'll get a decent grade as long as you come to class every day.
Good
Professor Windeknecht's introduction to Philosophy class was an easy A and fun. My year was the first to do his "gameified" class, so we had to sort out a few kinks in the system, but once everything got rolling it was great! He DOES NOT GIVE TESTS!! Which is fantastic, and there's no real lecturing either, mostly group discussion.
Average
Prof. Ryan gives everything that we have to know during lectures, so it is really mandatory to attend class. He isn't so detailed on essays. He rarely updates grades since the class is heavily based on achieving an amount of grade points via a variety of standards.
Good
Professor Windeknecht does his best to make the class entertaining and educational. As someone who learns better through active engagement, I appreciated his teaching style, he doesn't teach in the traditional lecturing style that most professors do. At times the grading criteria was a bit vague, but he definitely wants you to pass!
Good
Professor Windeknecht was a very nice guy. The class was easy but weird. The material was interesting.
Good
Professor Ryan is a really cool guy, you will learn a lot in his class but it's not that difficult. The class structure is set up like a game. at the end of the semester you will have a philosophical battle. It keeps you engaged and makes it fun, definitely an interesting way to learn. The class is very easy, but you have to do your work!
Good
Professor Ryan's class was interesting and novel. You could tell that he was testing the waters with this class and therefore was constantly changing things. I learned a lot though thanks to the role playing aspect of the class. However he grades the essays too harshly for an intro level course, but that's because he is so passionate about the class.
Awesome
Prof. Windeknecht is a great and energetic professor. The class doesn't require much outside work but you can still learn a lot in the classroom. He gives a few essays that are no more than two pages each. It's totally an easy class with a lot of good discussion.
Awesome
Prof. Ryan is an awesome professor. I had fun in his class. There wasn't much work and class periods were very interactive. Everything made lots of sense and I actually felt engaged in the topics during class. He always tries to find out from the class how things flowed and if it needed tweaking, whenever we would do a class activity.
Good
The class structure is like a game, very similar to Dungeons and Dragons. Because of this, it keeps the material engaging and interesting. Your grade is primarily made up of in class work and group quizzes. Other than that there is just 4 short papers and a portfolio of your work at the end. I would definitely take again.
Good
Professor Ryan makes this class fun and interesting. There is only four really short papers for the class and you will always work in groups.
Awesome
Professor Ryan teaches the class using a play on Dungeons and Dragons, which seems odd for philosophy, but I can assure you that it just makes the class more enjoyable.
Good
When I took this class, I did not know what to expect. By gamifying Phi 101, he made it enjoyable. The class even became more enjoyable once we got the hang of it. I would recommend taking this because it's an easy one.
Awesome
This class was super fun! The thought of taking philosophy didn't appeal to me since I am a biology major. However Ryan made the class super easy and fun. If you like having fun and games, take him!
Awesome
Professor Windeknecht had an interesting class that is based in Dungeons and Dragons. If you're worried about taking Philosophy, then take it under his class. It's much easier if your under him. Just attend the class, do the small assignments, then you'll definitely get an A.
Awesome
Ryan is a great teacher! His class is not dull, he really tries to make it fun. The only thing is that he is a tough grader when it comes to the essays so watch out and make sure you do them correctly. There is lots of group work and talking in this class. Overall, I would recommend.
Awesome
This was a super fun Gen Ed course! It is Dungeons and Dragons themed. There was only four short essays and group quizzes. Everything else that is graded in the class is pretty much participation.
Awesome
Professor Windeknecht is very informative with his topic and is a great person. The course wasn't my cup of tea because it was gamified, but he is good at what he does. He is very responsive and kind, and is almost always at his office hours if you need him!
Awesome
