I currently work at St. Joseph High School in Downtown Brooklyn as a teacher of Art (craft arts/making) and Philosophy. I have previously taught English and Religion.
Having reached the candidacy level in the PhD program in English Literature at the Graduate Center, CUNY, I am an experienced academic researcher (ABD) and undergraduate instructor in the field of English Language and Literature. Prior to my current position, I most recently worked as an adjunct instructor of Composition at New York City College of Technology and a writing and reading curriculum consultant for faculty members at Hostos Community College.
Learning has been my passion since encountering the world through the eyes of an amazing Literature and Philosophy teacher in high school. I am an intellectually curious and intrinsically motivated problem solver, a critical and precise reader, writer and speaker, and I enjoy collaborative as well as individualized projects. Furthermore, I am familiar with academic and lay writing in the areas of literature, history, philosophy, history, theology, art history, and general humanities. Finally, I am accustomed to teaching myself new skills as needed and am receptive to constructive criticism of my work.
I also have freelance experience researching, editing, proofreading, transcribing, and producing web content for marketing purposes. In addition to producing engaging and well-researched written materials, I can offer excellent attention to detail, stylistic proficiency, and a rich intuitive knowledge of the conventions and uses of the English language.
Finally, in addition to my professional experience listed here, I have volunteer experience in arts, culture and education related event coordinating and public speaking for local non-profits including Crossroads Cultural Center, the New York Encounter, and the Human Adventure Corporation.
