Adjunct Professor - Criminal Justice
As part of a world class faculty serving the East Tennessee community, my goal is to provide excellent academic instruction to those seeking their degree in criminal justice.
In my role, I am responsible for developing and maintaining an active classroom dedicated to learning; curriculum development for on campus delivery, web based delivery, and hybrid learning environments; and maintaining stellar records to include student attendance, academic performance, and student trend tracking. I am also a member of the criminal justice advisory board which works closely with community stakeholders to ensure ready and relevant delivery of vital topics in our field of study.
My current class load consists of classes focusing on juvenile delinquency, terrorism, criminal procedure, and criminal law.
As part of my curriculum design responsibilities, I have assisted in the migration of on campus courses to the hybrid and web based delivery arenas. To accomplish this task, I became proficient in the use of online learning management systems to include Momentum, a D2L product, and have established a videocast/podcast feed for each course through the iTunesU platform. This advance in technology based delivery captures the younger student's mind, ensuring greater comprehension of the material and enhancing the student's ability to critically think in the field. It also allows non-traditional students the opportunity to take classes to better their careers while still allowing them to work in a traditional setting.

Roane State Community College Ed Tech Academy 2013
We co-authored and co-presented on the use of iPads in the classroom at the Roane State Ed Tech Academy. While this may be a bad reference back to the days of Chuck E. Cheese's "Where a Kid can Be a Kid," but it can definitely apply to our classes and the ways that we use technology to present material and engage our students. Today, iPads in the classroom can help us develop methods of learning beyond anything we have seen in the past and can bring the fun back into education for both students and professors. You may be asking why we need fun in education. If you look back at when you were in school, you probably remember the most from those classes that were fun and educational. The use of iPads allows us to bring that dynamic back into our college classrooms to help our students learn things that will stick with them. When we use iPads to enhance learning opportunities in the adult learning environment, the outcome can be students engaged in learning that can last a lifetime.
