  • Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters

    Director, Workforce Development

Through a pilot project funded by the Government of Saskatchewan, Western Economic Diversification, and Saskatchewan Polytechnic to create the Saskatchewan Manufacturing Centre of Excellence, the workforce development portfolio entailed engaging youth and Aboriginals in the manufacturing industry, and sharing human resources best practices to its members.

Creating awareness of the manufacturing industry and its wealth of career offerings was achieved through partnerships with industry-education councils and Aboriginal groups by participating in career-related events while utilizing hands-on manufacturing-related activities.

On the human resources side, I assisted in developing and implementing a variety of professional development programs, including the Manufacturing Management Certificate with Athabasca University, and the Leadership Boot Camp. Additionally, I led two human resources special interest groups within our membership.

From an operational perspective, I was very involved in CME's productivity portfolio and the variety of lean training and consortia that CME offered, where I discovered my passion for operational excellence.

Working with this organization has been a real eye-opener in understanding the manufacturing industry and appreciating all that is made in Saskatchewan.

Being able to teach the areas of human resources has given me an even greater understanding of its necessity and business case. Moreover, seeing and hearing the feedback from students on how the impact of people is now on their radar is extremely rewarding.
