Adjunct Instructor of English
As an adjunct instructor
I conduct three sections of undergraduate English per semester
focusing on the fundamental aspects of language and composition in a discussion-based
student-driven classroom environment. \n\n+ ENGL 100: English Fundamentals \nThis course focuses on the basic techniques of writing with an emphasis on structure and mechanics as the building blocks of the English essay. I develop curriculum and syllabi
assignments
assessments
rubrics
and all relevant materials
as well as tailor the course to the individual needs of the students. We explore various modes of writing
including description
narration
definition
process
and response
and cover a wide range of strategies for forming solid
effective essays. My goal is to guide students as they hone their overall writing skills
preparing them for more advanced stages of academic writing.\n\n+ ENGL 101: Academic Writing \nThis course encourages students to enter into the larger conversations happening within academic writing. Here
students analyze the rhetorical moves successful writers make
then discuss strategies and techniques for responding to what others are saying as well as articulating their own arguments. I customize the course to the needs and interests of the students
selecting topics and readings that are relevant and compelling. My goal is to engage students in thoughtful discussion
urging them to dig deeper and fully analyze the connections between multiple texts and perspectives. By the end of the semester
students should be successful in developing strong
evidence-based essays that contribute to the ongoing dialogue through rhetorical writing strategies
including summary
response
argument
and persuasion.

As an instructor at NCSU
I led multiple sections of undergraduate Creative Writing
focusing on the form and technique of various genres in a workshop-based
student-driven classroom environment. \n\n+ ENG 287: Explorations in Creative Writing (Fall 2013
Spring 2014)\nIn this course
we explored classic and contemporary examples of fiction
poetry
and creative non-fiction
drawing on a variety of creative works to illustrate elements of strong writing. I created course curriculum and materials
selected to meet the needs and interests of students
and curated readings and texts to spark interest in and mastery of creative writing. The discussion of writing technique and craft
along with weekly workshops of student work in all three genres
provided the backbone of the course. During workshop
I offered and encouraged constructive
considerate feedback to both hone students' creative writing skills and foster a respectful classroom community.
