Mobile Dawg Tablet Initiative 2014
This project was a revised repeat of the previous year's tablet initiative
with many improvements in the product
as well as the overall production process from shipping
to imaging
to deployment and training for the freshmen
and also the logistics of all parts of the project. This year the freshmen were set to get Dell Venue 11's. Despite the proposed ability to boot the new tablets into PXE for imaging
we couldn't get the student model to successfully
so we reverted to the SCCM scripted build process used last year
with some minor tweaks. Thankfully the tablets came in on a much more timely schedule
and we were actually able to complete them early once we got our imaging center fully built
even though there were 3
200 tablets (600 more than last year).

Campus Life Pinball
SIU Campus Life Pinball
a computer pinball game creation of pinball enthusiast
SIU student
and ISAT LAN Administrator Rob Craig is a virtual pinball “machine” built along the lines of modern pinball machines you see in the real world today. The game has over 100 custom sound effects and speech calls which include the SIUC Cheerleaders
the SIUC marching band
the Pullium Clocktower bells
and offical Saluki public address announcer Steve Falat. Musically
the game features a rich and diverse 10 song soundtrack that carries over 8 unique modes of play.\n\nCampus Life uses the Future Pinball game engine Future Pinball has a truly dynamic reflection system that allows stunning visuals and almost photo realistic render quality on PC’s with dedicated 3D video cards.

Stop-Motion Animation
A stop motion breakdown and reconstruction of an Alvin G - Punchy The Clown commercial pinball machine. Over 3
100 still photos and 102 sound effects make up the animated short. Best viewed in HD with good speakers to hear discrete sounds. Soundtrack features Robert Meyers' song The Magnificent Escape.\n\nRegarding the rotation of the playfield
consider that a portrait version of this video would be 1/3rd the size. If you are able to rotate your monitor
please do so.

I advise and lead a group of highly talented students through an array of topics related to the video game industry. Through industry connections
I work with professionals to provide webinars with our students on industry topics like game design fundamentals
distribution
the indie market
and information about various careers in this industry. We also have professional development workshops that have included work with Maya
Java
and the Unity game engine. Students are empowered to research and present on topics of interest in this program.

Columnist
I accepted the opportunity to write for GameRoom Magazine in 2006. The new owner
Steele Publishing
needed a qualified writer to deliver monthly articles concerning the Pinball entertainment segment of their publication. At the time
I had 8 years of experience in collecting
restoring
and operating coin-op devices. It has been a rewarding experience that continued until November of 2010 when Steele Publishing ended GameRoom Magazine due to the difficult economic climate for print media. An archive of articles are available at www.popbumper.com
my personal website.

Monthly Columnist
I spend the 2011 year writing for Always Jukin' Magazine. I was responsible for covering both past and present topics of interest about the pinball industry for pinball collectors
restorers
enthusiasts. Always Jukin is both a print and electronically delivered magazine targeted to collectors of high end home gameroom equipment.

I have the pleasure of leading some of the finest LAN Administrators and Desktop Support Technologists on the Carbondale Campus. I work with our CIO and peer managers to ensure that our campus is moving forward
on the leading edge of technology in desktop computing and software. I also develop policy to ensure that our team is professional
on-time
pro-active
and provide quality service to our campus customers. I still maintain the Technical Lead role in the Tablet Computing initiative called MobileDawg on our campus.
IT Manager
Southern Illinois University
I came into UPS as a Technical Specialist in 1997
covering two UPS facilities and their respective key customer accounts. My role was technical support and deployment of new technology internally
and installing
training
and integrating UPS software and hardware at key customer sites. In 1999
I was promoted to Lead Technical Specialist where I took the role as a team leader for the south division of our district's technical support group. I was able to train technicians on new UPS propriety software and hardware deployments
provide technical audits and reviews of my team
and participate in advanced technical training at the region level. I left UPS in 2006 after the company planned a nationwide buyout of their technical support group. The economy was good and job opportunity abundant in 2006. My 9 years invested in the company yielded a nice financial package. I landed a job immediately as the director of IT
Sales
and Marketing for a local construction company.

After completing a MS thesis and project related to advergaming
and concentrating on the video game industry throughout my Media Mgt. degree
I presented a proposal for an introductory Video Game Industry and Design course as a first step in designing a specialization track in this industry. It was accepted. Due to state financial constraints and administrative changes at SIUC
it is unclear as to the future of the program. I am interested in developing
researching
and teaching in this field either at SIUC or in another institution.
