With over 15 years of experience in the teaching / training, information technology, and manufacturing arenas, I bring a breadth and depth of expertise to team-centered organizations that value continuous improvement and proactive problem-solving. As a team leader, I am well-known for developing plans, managing priorities, and setting goals that support productivity and professional development.
While my career has spanned a variety of industries and roles, I have consistently excelled as a trainer, teacher, and leader. Furthermore, my project management and communication skills enable me to collaborate effectively to achieve organizational objectives.
Highlights of my professional accomplishments include:
► DESIGNING A COMPREHENSIVE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM to prepare unemployed individuals to succeed in manufacturing roles for local companies.
► CREATING THE CURRICULUM FOR AN ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY DEGREE PROGRAM, including completely designing eight technical courses with lecture and lab components.
► LEADING IT TECHNICIANS THROUGH COMPLEX ON-SITE AND INTERNAL INSTALLATIONS. I consistently modeled best practices and guided my team to effectively problem solve in high stress situations.
► DIRECTING MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS, including designing training programs and materials to achieve site-wide alignment with efficient production standards.
I welcome the opportunity to bring my leadership experience into corporate or educational settings, especially those that value collaboration and embrace change. Feel free to connect with me via LinkedIn or email me directly at rwvanderbilt@optonline.net.

Academic Advisor & Adjunct Instructor: Engineering Technology Department
In this role, I have the opportunity to teach students in both classroom and one-on-one settings.
As an academic advisor, I manage a caseload of 250 students in our Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology program. My role centers around helping students to make regular progress towards graduation, including selecting appropriate courses, referring them to campus resources, and creating academic improvement plans when needed. I have also played an integral role in growing enrollment in our programs by conveying the programs’ features, benefits, and career opportunities to both internal and external transfer students. In fact, our enrollment grew to 250 students from 150 students in only 18 months.
In a typical semester, I teach two courses, each with 25 enrolled students. Each course involves both a lecture and laboratory component, and I use active learning methods to ensure that students understand the practical application of the theoretical concepts we discuss in class.
Early in my tenure at NJIT, I created the original curriculum for three technical courses, which included establishing course objectives, designing laboratory exercises, and creating assessment criteria.
