As a higher education assistant professor, learning is an integral part of my profession and attaining a terminal degree in Sports Psychology was a major part of my academic goals and professional goals. My personal and professional goals rely heavily on my academic credentials. My goals are numerous and are all related to Sports Psychology so, I considered it an obligation to myself, to have attained a terminal degree in this specific field.
Teaching (Fitness and Sports) at Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas and coaching for over 20 years has propelled me to inquire about further study within this field. By attaining my Doctoral degree in Sports Psychology I would like to accomplish numerous goals. Some of these personal. First and foremost expanding my knowledge within the field of Sport Psychology, so that I can better serve my students and my community. I also want to continue educating young individuals at higher learning institutions so that we can help promote our field of study appropriately. These two goals make me believe that the more prepared and current I am within my field, the better job I will do in guiding those who depend on my expertise concerning teaching and/or athletics.
Along with my personal goals, professional goals are to associate myself with students internationally and convey, through my knowledge of this subject area, a positive image of teaching physical education, to make it enjoyable for them, and to advance into a greater leadership role within the field of physical education and/or athletic world. Within the athletic world, I would like to conduct a study that will help me understand the mind set of athletes in the USA as compared to athletes globally. Finally, my ultimate goal would be to work as a sports psychologist for a major university or a professional team. The commitment that I have made to this profession exemplifies my wanting to better serve our multi-cultural society.
