Rachel Loewen Walker has been the Executive Director of OUTSaskatoon since 2013. During the time that Rachel has been with the organization, OUTSaskatoon has grown from six to thirteen employees, now reaching more than twelve thousand people per year with an annual operating budget of just over a million dollars.
Rachel has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Philosophy from the University of Alberta, with expertise in feminist and queer theory, continental philosophy, and the philosophy of time. She has spent more than 10 years as a sessional instructor at the University of Saskatchewan, and has worked in a number of research capacities including with the Indigenous Peoples’ Health Research Centre, the Prairie Region Health Promotion Centre, and the Canadian Mental Health Association. Throughout Rachel’s community and academic work she developed expertise in non-profit organization management, facilitation, leadership, and policy analysis. As well, Rachel has an extensive scholarly portfolio, having presented and published in the areas of human rights, social services and healthcare, community-based initiatives, queer theory and praxis, and feminist philosophy. In all areas of work Rachel has focused on opening up spaces for social change, cultural diversity and greater collaboration across non-profit, University, governmental, and other spheres.
