I was involved in characterizing nominally anhydrous mantle minerals in order to better understand the the hydration state of the mantle. I also refined the structures of a group of trioctahedral micas that had been chemically well characterized in order to better understand the crystal-chemistry of mica. Additionally
I was involved in many other projects including: garnet's structural response to elevated pressure
x-ray studies of high temperature superconductors
semiconductors
hydrous chain silicates (pectolite
serandite
amphibloes)
the structure determination of a small organo-metallic molecule
aligning crystals for spectroscopic investigation using a procession camera and the list goes on ... The X-ray lab had two 4-circle diffractometers (one of which was equipped with a rotating anode)
a powder diffractometer
and a procession camera.
