One of the projects involved developing growth and lean muscle deposition curves for purebred Berkshire pigs. My Ph.D. dissertation project—Energy use and nutrient cycling in pig production systems—was a life cycle assessment of Iowa pig production systems. In this project I quantified and compared energy and nutrient flows through different pig production models. This work lead to publication of 3 peer reviewed journal articles. \n\nAs a graduate student I also developed a taught a course—Livestock Production for Niche Markets. I also was a teaching assistant for a variety of courses—Working with Animals (lab)
Nutrition
and Swine Management. My responsibilities for these courses ranged from in-class demonstrations and grading to development and presentation of classroom lectures and other learning activities.
