Biography

Indiana University Northwest - Communication

Associate Professor/Communication
E-learning
Patricia
Walker
Greater Chicago Area
As a creative educator, lecturer and curriculum designer, I provide innovative approaches to teaching and learning that empowers and impacts. My classroom sessions are noted to be interactive, with lively conversations about issues that demonstrate a better understanding of core concepts. I also allow students to construct their own understanding about the subject matter, giving them ample opportunities to practice skills in authentic situations.

I teach and consult in Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Introduction to Mass Media, Business/Professional Communication and Gender and Communication as well as undergraduate and graduate courses in Education; specializing in Curriculum and Instruction. This exceptional blend leverages a unique platform that allows me to create tailored lessons to my targeted audiences. Additionally, I'm able to combine these skills as a prolific grant writer to be matched with the needs of the for-profit and/or not for profit organization.

Lastly, as an education enthusiast, I’ve been ornamented with several local state and national awards--a few of which include Milken's National Educator's Award, Illinois Distinguished Educators Award, and Governor's Master Teacher Award. My most valued accomplishment has not been awards--but in mentoring youth (no matter race, gender, class, sexual orientation, religion) to greater heights in higher education, career development and entry level employment.

My most recent speaking engagement--To Pimp a Butterfly: The Anatomy of Teaching--was given to other adjunct professors and lecturers at a conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. I see myself as a rolling stone--a true architect of learning and a mentor for young people ever ready to take any challenge with zeal, precision and purpose.
