Nicholas Perez is an assistant professor in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at Texas A&M University.
Nick's research investigates tectonics by integrating field and lab-based methods, including sedimentology/stratigraphy, geochronology, structural geology, thermochronology, and geothermometry.
Research Interests:
- Foreland and hinterland basin evolution in orogenic systems
- Inversion tectonics
- Extensional basins
- Sediment provenance, routing, and deposition
Field Areas (present and future projects)
- Central Andes, Peru
- Permian Basin, west Texas
- Paradox Basin
- Cascades, Oregon
- Atlas mountains, Morocco
Graduate Research Assistant
Nicholas worked at The University of Texas at Austin as a Graduate Research Assistant
Geology intern
A member of the project and execution teams within the Mid-Continent Business Unit. I conducted an integrated geology/geophysics study of the Avalon Shale (Leonardian, Permian) in the Delaware Basin. I provided new regional stratigraphic interpretations, implemented seismic stratigraphy to understand lateral facies variability, defined the structural and stratigraphic architecture of the Avalon, demonstrated the competing roles of structure and sequence stratigraphy, and identified a potential link between production trends and geophysical attributes.
Geophysics intern
As a member of the Volume Interpretation and Visualization team within ETC, I conducted an investigation of pre stack seismic utility to improve seismic imaging in offshore Angola. I created pre stack workflows for Petrel and Epos. I also created a workflow for horizon driven full seismic volume flattening using VoxelGeo and TerraSpark.
