  EDUCATION CONSULTANT II – Sexuality Education, February 2009 – July 2009
  Provided technical assistance and consultation to local education agencies (LEAs) on sexuality education Essential Teaching Standards and state legislation. Approved LEA Title V Abstinence Education program budgets and amendments. Assessed LEAs’ use of curricula to meet the federal guidelines and state statutes for Abstinence Education. Assisted in grant writing to secure funding for program related initiatives. Collaborated with community agencies and other state government agencies to identify adolescent health risk factors within the state and provide solutions. Evaluated all components of North Carolina Title V State Abstinence Education Grant Program.

  Reproductive Health Consultant

  Oversee the implementation of the USDHHS ACF state grant award for North Carolina State Education Agency (SEA).
  Develop and manage a $2.5M annual grant award program budget by creating and adhering to a spending plan each fiscal year.
  Interpret and communicate federal grant program guidelines, state statutes and related SEA Board of Education (SBE) policies to grant sub-awardees, local education agencies (LEAs), stakeholders, and community partners.
  Design and implement health education strategies that effectively train and educate teachers, administrators, and student support staff to prepare them to meet the health education needs of their students.
  Develop and implement inclusive and culturally relevant health education programs that address the needs of diverse student and professional populations in North Carolina public schools.

  Provided leadership, guidance and technical assistance within the agency, local public school districts, stakeholders and community partners related to physical activity, nutrition, tobacco and Coordinated School Health. Assisted in preparing strategic plan, work plan, and reports required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH). Managed the coordination and implementation of the statewide Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and School Health Profiles (SHP). Promoted, facilitated and coordinated collaborative efforts among community-based organizations, state agencies and schools to develop innovative policies and programs which create healthier school and community environments. Served as lead staff person for administration, facilitation and follow up of statewide data collection. Supported team members in providing technical assistance and support to schools relative to health education.

  Implemented motivational and life skills training to adolescent and adult male substance abusers in court mandated treatment facility. Provided health education to class participants. Promoted health discussions in the classroom. Provided in-depth education on HIV/AIDS to high risk and infected persons at the treatment facility.
