    STATEMENT OF TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Teaching can be described as providing the right answers and facilitating as providing the right questions. When I find myself in front of an audience, I hesitate when trying to describe or define what I am doing. Is it teaching? Is it facilitating? I “faciliteach.” With each opportunity, my goals are to provide information, guide thinking and learn. In order to accomplish these objectives I have to be prepared, be engaging and be even better the next time.
Whether discussing technical content or soft skills, whether my audience is a group of colleagues or college students, I methodically review and prepare to help the presentation flow and keep it fresh and relevant. To engage my audience, I vary the approach throughout each session. I use open ended questions, humor, repetition, group work, audio-visual tools, peer teaching, research, hands-on learning and real life application. Following each experience, as leader or participant, I reflect, to determine what worked, what didn’t work, what the learning outcomes were and what could be better. I use the answers to those questions to enhance the next opportunity. I am passionate about this activity and feel revitalized each time I do it.
