Bachelor of Science (B.S.)
BSBA -- with a major in Accounting. Most credits in BSBA were transferred in from prior attendance at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and LSU. After graduation
I completed a State finance/accounting examination in pursuit of a State accounting or auditing position. My score was the highest in all 10 counties to which I applied but one. I raise this here not to brag
but to underscore the importance of online education. Many individuals demeaned my education
as some of my accounting courses were completed through distance education ( used this term because the internet had not yet been \"born\"). Yet
I have been successful throughout my career
as a CFO in government and in the private sector. If you happen to be in the minority of persons who still believe that online learning is less valuable than that of traditional universities
make no mistake: You ARE in the minority! And you should reconsider...

Masters of Arts in Organization Management (MAOM). I was the first resident of Pennsylvania to graduate from the MAOM program. My Masters thesis used a quasi-experimental pre- and post research design; in which I explored whether a training program that I developed (specifically for the research study) to assist participants in their understanding of strategic planning in general and strategic planning in Pennsylvania's public MH/MR systems specifically was effective. My thesis was entitled: \"A Research Study to Determine the Effect of a Training Program on Employees' Data Systems Knowledge and Employees' Understanding of How Data Systems Relate to the Strategic Planning Process.\" Fortunately
my statistical testing showed that the training program was effective (scores pre-training to post-training were statistically significant.

International Journal of Integrated Care
Purpose: The interdependence of behavioral and somatic aspects of various health conditions warrants greater emphasis on an integrated care approach.\r\nTheory: We propose that integrated approaches to health and wellness require comprehensive and empirically-valid outcome measures to assess quality of care.\r\nMethod: We discuss the transition from independent to integrated treatment approaches and provide examples of new systems for integrated assessment of treatment outcome.\r\nResults: Evidence suggests that support for an independent treatment approach is waning and momentum is building towards more integrated care. In addition
research evidence suggests integrated care improves health outcomes
and both physicians and patients have favorable impressions of integrated care. \r\nConclusions: As treatment goals in the integrated perspective expand to take into account the intimate relationships among mental illness
overall health
and quality of life
clinicians need to develop outcome measures that are similarly comprehensive.

Consumer-directed care
a payment system designed to make patients aware of the costs of care
requires treatment seekers to be active participants in their health care. Core components of consumer-directed care
such as higher deductibles and increased decision-making responsibilities
might preclude its easy translation from medical to behavioral health care. Aspects of behavioral disorders will force providers
insurers
and patients to compensate for unique barriers to increasing self-care
such as stigma
neuropsychological complications
and poor self-efficacy. This column describes important components of consumer-directed care and the unique barriers that behavioral health care creates for those components. Possible best practices are suggested for surmounting those barriers.
