As the Cold War Collections Specialist at Tamiment, I am responsible for curating many of Tamiment’s archival collections, putting together an active public programming series, organizing academic conferences, conducting oral histories, and several other projects for the Library.
My work at Tamiment is building off of my experiences with the National Archives at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum (2011-2014) where I helped organize public programs, contributed to the museum's editing process of temporary and permanent exhibits, and oversaw the Library's internship program.
My book They Said No to Nixon: Republicans Who Stood Up to the President's Abuses of Power was published by the University of California Press (October 2018). Culling from previously unpublished excerpts from the tapes and recently released materials that expose the thirty-seventh president’s uncensored views, I reveal how Republican party members remained loyal to their roles as civil servants in the face of Nixon’s attempts to expand the imperial presidency. Delving into the culture of criminality surrounding Watergate and showing why it did not succeed, They Said No to Nixon sheds light on the significant cultural and ideological shifts that occurred within the GOP during the pivotal 1970s. To this day, the Nixon tapes are a bracing reminder of the threat to constitutional order posed by a president who wields power without restraint.
