I’ve been a writer for as long as I can remember
and a large part of my academic and professional career has been spent helping other writers achieve their goals.\n\nHiring a professional to edit your book can be incredibly helpful. We tend to become “blind” to things that are familiar and commonplace
and for a writer this can mean missing simple typos
formatting errors
continuity issues
and a whole host of other problems. A fresh set of eyes can do wonders for a manuscript. My role as an editor is to help writers identify their needs: What kind of schedule do they hope to keep? Do they want someone to simply make sure there are no glaring errors
or are they hoping for detailed critical feedback? How invested are they in revising
rewriting
or writing new material? Do they prefer to have an editor return work to in smaller installments
or all at once? Do they require help formatting their manuscript for ePublishing? When do they hope to publish this manuscript? \n\nSetting goals and expectations is essential to the writer-editor relationship. It’s important for each client to get what they want out of the process
and I’m here to help them figure out what that might be
and to provide the level of service appropriate to both the client's needs and the project at hand.
