PhD Dissertation
Using data from the National Police Research Platform
my dissertation will analyze the antecedents and correlates to the adoption of procedural justice in law enforcement agencies across the country. The goal of increasing the use of procedural justice
or equity and fairness in policing
has recently been brought to the national spotlight in the President's Task Force on 21st Century Policing report. My research will allow us to better understand how procedural justice is adopted by the rank-and-file officers and provide suggestions for nation-wide implementation.
Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG)
Lead analyst for performance measurement of JAG grantees. Worked on the performance measure revisions for fiscal year 2015 and future awards.
Smart Policing Initative
Lead analyst for performance measurement of the Smart Policing Initiative.
Procedural Justice and Legitimacy Training
I created an 8-hour course to train law enforcement officers in the value of increasing legitimacy through the use of procedural justice. The training course was piloted at the Roanoke City Police Academy to a class of 17 seasoned police officers in January 2014. Overall
the vast majority of the class found it useful and 100% stated they would use procedural justice in their interactions with the public.
