As the culture of higher education continues its transformation, it is imperative that we intentionally begin our work with students where they are currently rather than as we think they "should have been already". Limiting prior assumptions about our students will lead to lasting, fruitful outcomes when partnering with them in their academic success.
Oftentimes, what many consider things that students “should know already” but do not, are the very things that affect their motivation and desire to press forward academically. The College Study Struggle (see media link) provides students with an avenue to learn the skills, the habits, and the jargon that will help them succeed in the academy.
