Marcus L. Neiman retired from posts held with the Medina County Schools Educational Service Center in 2010 (1980 through 2000 as fine arts consultant and 2000 through 2010 as director of fine arts tours and festivals). He was formerly director of bands at Medina High School (1972 through 1980).
He received his bachelor of science in music education degree from The University of Akron, master of music in music education degree from The University of Michigan, postgraduate hours at The Kent State University, and The University of Akron.
He was appointed as the interim assistant director of bands and administrator for the division of bands at the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music at Kent State University in May of 2010 and held that position 2010-2011 academic year. In addition to his duties with the division of bands, he also teaches their “Music Teaching as a Profession” and “Instrumental Methods for Choral-General Music Majors” course, supervises music education student teachers, and is responsible for recruiting and outreach. Neiman has served The Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) as state president from July 1, 1998 through July 1, 2000. He was presented with OMEAs highest award “The Distinguished Service Award” at the 2010 Professional Development Conference in Cincinnati, on Friday, January 29th, 2010, becoming only the 57 recipient in the association’s history to receive the honor.
Neiman has appeared with junior high/middle and high school, college and university, community bands, and American Federation of Musicians union professional bands as a guest conductor and in his characterization of famed bandmaster John Philip Sousa in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, (state of) Washington, and Wisconsin. Neiman made his first international appearance as John Philip Sousa in October of 2004 when he appeared as special guest conductor of the Volga Concert Band in Saratov, Russia (October 15th).

Instructor of “Music Teaching as a Profession” and “Instrumental Methods for Choral Majors” Kent campus course for undergraduate music education students, and supervisor of music education student teachers. Was also responsible for coordinating the efforts to establish the first Kent Band Society for the University, “Let’s Talk Tunes” band reading sessions, and “Fab Friday” outreach program bringing junior high/middle and high school vocal, instrumental band and orchestra ensembles to Kent’s campus)

Invited (and accepted) to serve on the Case Dean’s Teacher Education Advisory Council (TEAC), who purpose is to provide community expertise for Case’s teacher education program.

Neiman has been conductor of Medina Community Band since 1972. His major responsibilities are to oversee the musical aspects and plan concerts for the ensemble.
Fine Arts Consultant and Director of Fine Arts Tours
Fine arts consultant (August 1980 – December 2000). Major responsibilities include consultation/visitation of visual arts and music educators in Medina County’s four local school districts and curriculum development in the areas of music and visual arts. Secondary responsibilities include inservice of educational personnel, grant writing, coordination of the county fine arts tours and fine arts festivals. An additional responsibility during the 1999-2000 year was serving as the educational consultant for the Black River Local Schools.

Secondary responsibilities are grant writing and teaching the county staff development grant writing course.
