Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program
PhD candidate in politics. My dissertation project explores the construction of a Sandinista political identity in Nicaragua. Using the politics of memory as a conceptual framework
this project seeks to explain how the Sandinista Front for National Liberation (FSLN) in Nicaragua constructed its political identity by keeping the memories of the heroes and martyrs of the revolution alive and by mobilizing what they called mistica revolucionaria in order to expand its social base from a small group of militantes to a mass based revolutionary party. By constantly mobilizing its political identity the FSLN has been successful in maintaining most of its social base intact in spite of internal divisions and external pressures for the past twenty years.
