Due to the sudden switch to online classes, the second portion of the semester was rough. However, Professor McNeil does have clear expectations on what she wants you to know for the exams through her study guides. Study guides for laboratory examinations are also provided. Do take a lot of notes. Her actual lectures are pretty good, but her recorded sessions are fast.
Good
This isn't the easiest class I've ever taken, but you can see that she really cares about the material! You'll be fine as long as you complete the homeworks, study guides, and review notes. She will assist you if you need help, but she definitely doesn't tolerate laziness. Use the study aids to your advantage; she draws questions directly from them. She emphasizes nursing topics!
Awful
Don't take Professor McNeil if you have a life outside of school. The amount of material in class is overwhelming. You're expected to learn and memorize the day before the exam. If you have the time to complete all of the study guides, practice exams, chapter readings, homework, and laboratory work and memorize all of them, then you might be fine.
Awful
Professor McNeil is horrible. She's very difficult to work with during the pandemic. She's passionate about microbiology, but she doesn't care if you understand it or not. She just needs to get through the topic. Also, be prepared to learn or teach yourself an entire chapter, the day before an exam.
Awful
Professor McNeil was very hard to reach especially during the pandemic. She made her lecture exams very specific. Also, she did not show up to class for a week and still expected us to learn all the material even without lecture slides. We still had to learn two chapters out of 5 by ourselves. To sum it up, be prepared to do self-teaching. Overall, I don't recommend her class.
Awful
In Professor McNeil's class, you're going to teach yourself everything. She's nice but be prepared for a condescending or sarcastic comment every time you ask her a question. Also, she doesn't care if you learn the material and just try to get through the lectures. And if you need help, I suggest don't bother to send her an email, she will either take a long time to respond or send you back a rude statement.
Awesome
Professor McNeil is awesome. Microbiology is not an easy course with any professor. However, she does her best to help us as much as possible, while making sure we are actually learning. A lot of study is needed outside of class. But she gives practice exams and study guides for everything. Yes, there are a lot of quizzes, but they helped me learn the material.
